Writing

Whether writing about adventure sports, how our changing climate is impacting the natural world, nature restoration initiatives or profiling characterful people and places with great stories to tell, I write in a rich, engaging and accessible way.

Features, news, reviews

I’ve been lucky to work on a wide range of articles – from in-depth features to shorter news and reviews – for a variety of publications, They include BBC Wildlife, CNN Traveller, the membership magazines of charities such as the Scottish Wildlife Trust, National Trust for Scotland, Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and the John Muir Trust, plus a host of press pieces (from local to national).

Although I can turn my hand to most topics, I specialise in adventure travel, outdoor activities, wildlife and ecology. I pay close attention to briefs and deliver engaging copy on time, every time. Read what various happy campers have to say.

You can also check out samples of my work below. Click on each to read a PDF.

blogging, copywriting and much more!

I’m delighted to provide copywriting services to small businesses and digital agencies, as well as regular ghost blogs and additional marketing services. It’s a chance to write in different styles and help clients create personality and warmth around their respective products. Punchy writing also comes in handy when it comes to web copy, including ongoing work alongside colleagues for Go Tweed Valley. Together, we have also produced sparkling copy and design work for trail signage (including the Tweed Valley Canoe Trail) and even a double decker bus wrap now seen by millions in Edinburgh!

festival programming

I served for several years as programme director (and presenter) for the annual Peebles Outdoor Film Festival at the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles. This hugely popular event has now morphed into the Wild Writers Festival in January and has become an important part of the area’s annual calendar of events, drawing people from far and wide during a traditionally less busy time of the year.
